The 110th anniversary of the founding of the Irish Women Workers’ Union (IWWU) on the 5th September 1911 will be celebrated with music, word, verse and by the launch of Left Lives in 20th Century Ireland.
The IWWU played a pivotal role in 20th century history in Ireland. It organised women workers throughout the economy playing a leading role in famous industrial actions including the 1911 Jacobs Strike, the 1913 Lockout and 1945 Laundry Strike. It’s members, including Helena Maloney, Delia Larkin and Rosie Hackett, also played key roles in the fight for votes for women, 1916 Rising and the War of Independence.
