Football Strategy is a classic Avalon Hill board game that focuses on the tactical side of football rather than player stats or licenses. Originally published in 1959, this vintage sports board game uses a unique matrix system where offensive and defensive play calls are cross-referenced to determine the outcome of each play. In this video, I preview Football Strategy and explain why it remains one of the most interesting football simulation games ever designed.
If you enjoy sports board games, classic Avalon Hill titles, or strategy-focused tabletop games, Football Strategy offers a clean and elegant design that rewards smart play calling and situational awareness. Whether played physically or on Tabletop Simulator, this game captures football as a thinking game, making it a standout option for fans of old-school board game design and competitive sports simulations.

![TOBRUK - Historical Board Game Review | Avalon Hill Analysis
This video reviews Tobruk, a tactical board wargame system, focusing on its morale rules, combat modeling, and map design. The analysis highlights how morale interactions between units can produce unrealistic battlefield behavior, particularly when unit cohesion is not fully accounted for across multiple squads.
The discussion also compares Torbuk’s strengths in modeling measurable combat factors like armor penetration and weapon range with its weaker handling of infantry psychology and battlefield cohesion. The video concludes with a comparison to Squad Leader, and examines how different wargame systems approach the challenge of simulating the human element of warfare.
