Orlando is an Oscar-winning, socially engaged documentary director known for Virunga, The White Helmets and Evelyn, and producer of Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (if you’re a girl) and Seahorse. He comes to Folkestone to coincide with the release by Netflix of his new film Convergence, which tracks the first year of Covid through multiple different global stories.
In this masterclass hosted by Charlie Phillips from The Guardian, Orlando will discuss how he decides which stories to pursue, and the approach of his production company, Grain, who are dedicated to inspiring narratives of humble heroism from around the world, following extraordinary characters with intimacy, rigorous journalism and always with relationships of trust with protagonists.
