At the end of this story, sorry its so long, but worth the time to read. There is a code that FlyTrex gave me which will give you a special discount if used.
Thank you FlyTrex, as most of you know a I did a review of the FlyTrex Live 3G tracking system just over a week ago. I have been doing reviews on different trackers for a couple of years, always looking for the best way to find a lost Aircraft. In the past I have used trackers, and telemetry to successfully do this.
Yesterday I took my equipment out to do some relaxing flights and just enjoy as the sun was starting to go down. What I did not expect to happen was that my Phantom 2 would decided to challenge me and the FlyTrex system.
I saw some smoke in the distance and decided to do one more flight and see what it was. I placed a fully charged battery in my Phantom and waited for a GPS lock and also for the FlyTrex to connect. Once I had this I took off and headed for the smoke. About 5 minutes into the flight I decided to return. I checked the voltage and saw that it was still around 65% I continued to come back when seconds later it dropped to 20% !!!! Shock set in as I knew I would not make it back. I also knew I was not in the best area to land. I tried to give it full power hoping it would make it, but I saw my altitude was dropping fast ! At that point I moved the stick hard left trying to stay away from an area that I defiantly did not want to come down in. I was successful with that, but it took me into a very dense wooded area.
It was getting late but I went to see if I could get close to where it was. My FlyTrex had given me its location, but once I got into the woods it was a bit dark and the GPS on my phone was not working because of the trees. I called off the search and went home to give my wife the Bad news!! In the morning I put together a retrieval kit and we drove to the general area where I felt it was safe to go into the woods. Worrying about being close to these not too desirable homes, and feeling I was reliving the movie deliverance lol not to mention the copperhead snakes that are in this area I headed out.
I took the longitude and latitude that FlyTrex Provided and converted it so my Garmin Oregon 450T could get me to the position. I do a lot of Geocaching which you might also enjoy

In short, it took me to within about 20 feet of where the FlyTrex Live 3G told me it would be !!! I was truly thankful and needless to say VERY HAPPY. This system had a lot of equipment on it, along with my Gopro Hero 4 Black Camera. From what I see so far the only damage was to a Prop, and the lcd dispay of the gopro is a little damaged, but it still records great.
I never wanted to give FlyTrex the real live test, but if I had not installed it and had it on my Phantom, I don’t think I would have had a chance in Hell to find it. I was happy after doing my review, but even happier now that I have my lost Phantom back at home.
