After 2,500 hours since its previous overhaul, my IO-520 engine is being replaced with an IO-550. This final flight of the old engine takes me to Pella, Iowa, where the shop is located that will do the engine swap and also install a new propeller (Classic Aviation, a family-owned FBO, flight school and maintenance shop).
Pella is a Dutch community of around 10,000 people in central Iowa. Every spring they celebrate "Tulip Time", and while the tulips are ready, COVID-19 has unfortunately forced the cancelation of all the major festivities this year.
A trip to Pella wouldn't be complete without a stop at Jaarsma, the famous Dutch bakery with a nicer selection of tasty treats and pastries than anywhere else I have seen. The bakery is popular with locals and visitors alike, and with the ATC Tower crew in Cedar Rapids - find out why in this video.
