Over the past few weeks I've received a lot of the same questions, so I figured I'd answer them all in one place.
Whether you're thinking about becoming a pilot, buying your first airplane, or trying to understand the new MOSAIC rules, this should clear up a lot of confusion.
Let's jump in.
Question 1:
Do I need an FAA medical to start flying?
Short answer: Not always.
Traditionally, every pilot needed an FAA medical certificate before flying solo or earning a Private Pilot Certificate.
With the new MOSAIC regulations, things have changed.
If you're flying a qualifying Light Sport Aircraft, you may not need a traditional FAA medical to operate as a Sport Pilot.
My advice:
Even if you ultimately plan on earning your Private Pilot Certificate...
Get your medical FIRST.
I've seen too many people spend thousands of dollars on flight training only to discover later that a medical issue delays or prevents certification.
Think of it as checking the foundation before building the house.
