My favorite heat transfer vinyl (purpose: make felt metallic, glittered, etc) is by Siser, I prefer the Easy Weed when I can find it, although not all colors/finishes are available in Easy Weed.
I do not have or use any of the proprietary machines sold with it, which I think are for detailed cutting. If you're just making some glitter felt, all you need is a regular iron.

My primary slate frame has 18" bars and 16" slats - a longer pair of slats to use with the bars would also be useful if you're working larger projects.
