Video provides a general discussion of what fixed and random effects panel regression are used for, as well as discusses why a fixed effects model is often more appropriate for estimating effects than a standard OLS regression. Included is a worked example of fixed effects regression and comparisons with OLS regression with and without the Mundlak procedure. This video is part 1 of a series.
*Correction: When I was discussing the results from using the Mundlak procedure with OLS regression, I failed to remember that the predictors had not been mean centered. So the strange strange results I noted in the video regarding the difference in direction for the within and between effects was inaccurate. The regression slopes for the between-person mean variables are interpreted as the difference in the within and between regression slopes not the between slopes themselves. To obtain the pure between effect we would have needed to mean center the within-person predictors and included them in the model (as opposed to the uncentered predictors). The Powerpoint (see below) discussion was correct at the point I made the video, but the video contained this error in interpretation.
