Join me as I take Lilly, my 4-year-old green horse, into an indoor arena for the very first time! This is only her third outing under saddle, and as expected, there are plenty of wobbles along the way—especially in the canter. But that’s all part of the journey with young horses.
In this video, I show you how I handle the common mistakes a green horse makes and how I stay patient and positive throughout the session. Lilly struggles with disunited canter (cross-cantering), a common issue for green horses who are still developing their strength and coordination. You’ll see real-life training as we work through these challenges, helping her find the correct lead, improve her balance, and build confidence.
At the end of the video, I demonstrate how I like a young horse to go—a balanced, forward and reaching for the bridle, an approach that sets them up for success.
If you’re working with a green horse or just curious about the process, this video is packed with insights into building confidence and responsiveness in a young horse.
