Designed by Daniel Burnham, the Continental Trust Company Building was once the tallest office building in the city and it was one of the few to survive the 1904 Fire. Dashiell Hammett worked here in the early 20th century, and some say this building was inspiration for a key component of his book, The Maltese Falcon, although we have found little evidence to support this.
