Located in a fabulous Art Deco building at Charles and Eager Streets, Club Hippo was at the heart of Baltimore’s gay nightlife scene. The discos and bingo nights were fantastic parties, but gay bars, including the Hippo, were more than that—they were vital gathering places to organize and celebrate advances in the Gay Liberation Movement and to mourn lost loved ones. We are delighted to be joined by John McLucas to share his own memories of Club Hippo, including sitting next to Baltimore’s own Divine at the bar!
