Popularized in the 1860s by Vice Admiral Robert Fitzroy, the Storm Glass is a sealed glass tube filled with various solvents and solutes whose internal crystallization patterns were purported to be able to predict the weather. While it has since been proven useless for actual forecasting, the Storm Glass is nonetheless intimately tied to the earliest pioneering days of modern meteorology.
