Alton Lake is a beautiful 968-acre Boundary Waters lake in Cook County, reaching a maximum depth of 72 feet. Its clear, deep water holds a great mix of fish, including walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and tullibee (cisco).

We hit the water looking for some of Alton's walleye, bass, and northern pike while enjoying the incredible scenery of the BWCA.

Fun fact: Alton Lake is connected to several other lakes and acts as a crossroads for BWCA routes—including a short portage to Kelso Lake and another to Sawbill Lake.
