I couple of years ago, I reviewed the original color cube: youtu.be/qczG2k3IdOw and I was super impressed by how innovative it was. It became such a popular product, and it sold out 3 times.
I couldn't imagine how it could be improved, but Sarah Renae Clark did, she expanded the collection to 1000 palettes and removed 100 palettes from the original set that she felt were weak. You can see the collection here: sarahrenaeclark.com/colorcube/?ref=98

What's changed?
100 cards removed and 600 added
Photos are categorized by themes and have index cards
The box opens from the center, making it easier to remove the cards
Do I recommend it? Yes!
Should I buy the upgrade if I already have the first edition?
That depends. If you have the money to spend and you want the indexed cards, then yes. You can also just buy volumes 3 and 4. You will still have some duplicates, but you will get the most new material that way. I think the indexed tabs make it much more useful, so you might want to try grouping the cards in the set you have and making your own tabs (You will need to remove the foam from the front and back of the box, so they will fit tho.
I think this is a wonderful improvement to the color cubes because it helps me find the type of reference photo I want instead of taking a stab in the dark. It's a bummer if you have the old cubes but I bet you could sell them easily. I may try making tabs for my original set to see how that will work and if I do I will let you know how it goes.
