Today I am reviewing ShinHan Professional Poster Color. It was sent to me by Blick Art Materials for review, you can see the full line here: tidd.ly/4u6ye6K (affiliate link used)
I wanted to try these paints because you get 40ml tubes of paint for $6.74 a tube, open stock, or less than $5 a tube in sets. They have pigment info as well, so I figured it would be a great way to get opaque, gouache-like color at a bargain price. And it would be a great way to do this if the tubes weren't so messed up! I received this product from Blick 3 weeks before I filmed this review, so it hadn't been sitting around. They also manufacture this paint in glass jars, but it is more expensive and harder to find where I live. If you have that option, it is probably a better bet because if it wasn't for the tube issue (which happened A LOT in both sets), I would give this paint a great review.
Pros:
Price $5-$6.75 for a 40ml tube
Pigment info disclosed
Open stock availability (69 colors in all)
Easy to work with
Cons:
The tubes are not reliable, the paint is runny or chunky and it takes a lot of effort to get the paint to the consistancy it should be,
I think there are a few errors on the pigment info, it's mostly right tho.
Bottom line:
If you want to try this paint, I recommend buying a few tubes of open stock, that way you can avoid fugitive colors or hues you may never use. Also, you might have better luck with the open stock tubes than I did with the sets; maybe the sets sat around longer. Blick has a great refund policy, so if you get a bad tube, you can contact them for a replacement. tidd.ly/4u6ye6K
