My Point of View
In business, first impressions and successful personal branding are not accidental outcomes.
Let's be intentional about the image, energy and credibility we bring into the room. People are immediately forming a view about our professionalism, intelligence, judgement and competence.
🎩 Know the Rule to Break the Rule
30. Q Why do hangers matter for suit jackets?
We should rotate our suits, so we are not wearing them back to back. They need to breathe and the wool fibers need to recover. That means hanging them up plays a very important role. Wooden hangers are the best choice because they protect the shoulder silhouette — the foundation of any sharp impression. Never, ever leave your jackets on the plastic hangers from the dry cleaners.
👔 The 4 Vs of Executive Presence:
Visual - Do I look prepared, credible and appropriate for the situation?
Vocal - Does my voice tone sound calm and confident?
Verbal - Are my comments clear, concise and beneficial?
Value - Am I making a useful difference to the people and business around me?
🎯 Today’s Executive Presence Intention
Today’s meetings: No client meetings today so I could suit myself.
The impression I wanted to create: I still want to look sharp so I went with the solid purple tie. Purple has historically been the most expensive colour and signals elegance. My wife made some purple horn cufflinks for me and so I am wearing them today, so the purple tie was the obvious choice.
The Impression Construction Elements
Suit: Ermenegildo Zegna Trivero 1910, notch lapels, three role on two buttoning, Barchetta breast pocket, 35mm double cuffs, flap pockets, side vents.
Shirt: Abelard Melbourne 1922 white shirt with English Cuffs. Abbeyhorn Holme 1749 horn collars stays from Kirby Allison Dallas 2007.
Tie: Thomas Pink London 1984 solid purple tie in a Windsor knot.
Cufflinks: Made by my wife for me - horn cufflinks in a dark purple.
Pocket Square: Isaia Napoli 1920 purple pocketsquare in a reverse puff. Stabiliser from Kuska Fabrics Kyoto 1936.
Watch: Vintage, gold 40mm Versace Milano 1978 with a Medusa design, custom cobalt nubuck alligator strap by Jean Rousseau Paris 1954.
Fragrance: Acqua di Parma Colonia - classic from 1916
👞 High Shine Shoes: The high shine black shoes were Pollini San Mauro Pascoli 1953 Derbys.
✨ Today’s Featured Detail: Handmade horn purple cufflinks from my wife
One Rule to Remember: Purple is an elegant colour which elevates your outfit every time.
