on our whale watch on Nov 4 2022 we came across and documented a newborn humpback whale calf, This is most likely the first time ever that this has ever been documented in Monterey or even outside of the breeding grounds!!
This population of Humpbacks that feed in Monterey migrate down to Mexico and Costa Rica for the winter time to give birth and mate.
After speaking with several experts we suspect this calf is less then one week old.
