on 9-5-22 in the Monterey Bay,CA we approached a group of 3 humpback whales on our whale watching trip and put our boat in neutral like we always do and started to enjoy watching these whales, but then to our surprise they started to swim towards the boat!! Then these 3 spent over an hour "spyhopping" and circling our boat! Not only did they do this to one of our boats, we called over our sister ship Sea Wolf II and when they arrived these 3 whales started swimming between our 2 completely still boats! These whales approached us on their own and when they do its known as "friendly whales" or a "mugging" and we feel very fortunate when it happens! This is EXTREMELY rare behavior and deffinatly not something we see everyday.
