I've been wanting to make another Blackjack tribute for awhile, and now felt fitting. A few months ago Blackjack was sold to a new home and has been moved far away, and I have come to terms with the fact that I will likely never see him again given his old age. The last time I visited him I knew it would be the last time, and it was a perfect way to honor our story. I'll always remember the way the sun shined down on us as I cantered him bareback with my arms outstretched, and the way he turned to smile at me before I left, happily expressing the one trick I had taught him to do so long ago.
Blackjack was a very important animal to me during some very difficult years growing up. He was the most trustworthy and steadfast horse I've ever met and he will always have a massive piece of my heart. But, I'm sure you all know that already. I will miss that sweet old face but I know he is loved in his new home. What I wouldn't give to keep him with me forever.
I love you, Black. Thank you for being my lifesaver when I needed you most.
