Winter is closing in fast. That means a higher risk of house fires and chimney fires (that can ultimately result in a house fire).
Using a few plastic sandwich bags and dry chemical material from an old fire extinguisher, you can create a resource for combating chimney fires! You NEVER want to put cold water up or down a hot/burning chimney as it can severely damage the mortar and brick used to construct/support the chimney. Instead, throw a couple of sandwich bags filled with fire extinguisher dry chemical down the chimney if safe to do so. Always call 911 in case of emergency!
Just a quick tip from my fire-rescue experience.
