Identifying and Using Wild Plants
Join Waldhandwerk - Bushcraft Survival for a plant identification walk at the end of August, guided by Susanne. This video explores various plants and their uses in a bushcraft setting.
Key Plants and their Uses:
Clematis: The only true liana in Europe [00:01].
Guelder-Rose: Easily mistaken for elder, but its leaves smell grassy, not like elderflower [00:47].
Mullein: Edible, and can be used as a torch when dry and wrapped in tree resin. Also excellent toilet paper and used for hand drill spindles [01:38].
Rose Family: Recognizable by its five-petal flowers, all members are edible, including blackberries [03:16].
Eupatorium: Can be made into a good hot beverage (tea) [03:40].
Dead-nettle: Edible and part of the mint family. All mint family plants are edible [04:01].
Himalayan Balsam: Only the flowers and seeds are edible [04:58].
Cleavers: Sticks to clothing like Velcro, edible, and used in cheese making [06:41].
Water Mint: The original plant for peppermint. All mint plants have a square stem and are good for tea [07:57].
Angelica: Used for heart medicine and supposedly only grows on sacred ground [09:09].
Canadian Goldenrod: Healthy and can be used as a hand drill spindle if the stems are thick and properly dried [11:51].
Evening Primrose: Opens its flowers at night. The small black seeds are edible, and the entire plant is edible [12:58].
Wild Carrot: Easily identified by its hairy stem and the only plant in its family that forms a nest, making identification easier [13:55].
Blackberry: Has real thorns and a more intense color than raspberries. Used to make ink in the past [14:53].
St. Johns Wort: Used as medicine for depression, and its red oil helps with burns or sunburn [15:59].
Roman Snails: All snails with shells are edible [17:53].
Butterbur (Wild Rhubarb): Not for consumption, but can be used to wrap roots or large slugs for baking under coals, similar to aluminum foil [18:12].
Gear Highlight:
Osmo Knife: Described as very sharp and durable [22:38].
This video is perfect for anyone interested in learning about plant identification, bushcraft, and the uses of wild plants for survival.

Building a Bushcraft Stool with a Drill: Easy DIY for Your Outdoor Camp
In this video, the channel creator demonstrates step-by-step how to build a simple yet sturdy bushcraft stool using a drill. The result is a practical piece of furniture perfect for your next outdoor adventure.
Construction Steps:
Material Preparation: The video begins by cutting a suitable piece of wood for the seat and sharpening three wooden pieces to serve as legs.
Drilling Holes: A drill is used to accurately bore holes into the seat wood, where the legs will be inserted.
Shaping the Legs: The creator uses a knife and a limb/bark remover to shape the ends of the legs, ensuring they fit snugly into the holes for a stable foundation.
Stool Assembly: The prepared legs are then inserted into the seat, possibly tapped gently with a mallet for a secure fit. Any protruding excess wood from the legs is sawn off [000:00:32],.
Final Product: The video concludes by showcasing the completed stool and demonstrating its stability.
Tools Used:
Wood drill
Limb/Bark remover
Knife
Saw
This video is perfect for anyone looking for an easy DIY project to add to their bushcraft or camping equipment.
