This is one of the finest yirdaki made and painted by Banyawarra.
Banyawarra has the distinction of having made the instrument that was used on tour by one of the finest yirdaki players on this planet - M*lk*y Mununggurr. The same instrument was used by David Blanasi's apprentice, none other than Darryl Dikarrna Brown, during White Cockatoo's performance at the Darwin Festival, 2006.
This yirdaki has enormous power, which isn't very apparent in this clip due to automatic volume adjustment by the video camera. Outstanding acoustics with dark muddy characteristics, superb depth and balance, easy overtone note. This would be one of the favourite instruments of visitors to iDIDJ Australia, including those who have been to the Garma Festival and checked out all the instruments up that way.
Banyawarra has been gaining a lot of interest from art galleries and public collecting institutions recently, and rightly so. iDIDJ Australia is proud to have nurtured her talents and to have promoted her from the beginning.
