In this episode of Financial Modeler’s Corner, host Paul Barnhurst sits down with John Yeldham to unpack the hidden communication problem inside financial modeling and accounting culture.

Financial modeling has its own language.

IDC. WACC. DSCR. To insiders, it’s efficient.

To everyone else, it sounds like exclusion.

That shorthand may save seconds in conversation, but it can cost clarity, trust, and alignment across a project.

When procurement teams, finance stakeholders, or clients can’t follow the terminology, the model stops being a business tool and becomes a private club.

Too many models are built around what modelers understand instead of what decision-makers actually need.

A technically correct model still fails if nobody outside the modeling bubble can confidently engage with it.
