This is the second video in a 3-part series that I'm doing in tribute to the music of Final Fantasy. Here's the first if you haven't seen it (youtube.com/watch?v=YMCqfCBi9rM). I'm hoping to have part 3 out in about two weeks.
"Kid Run Through the City Corner" is one of my favorite pieces by Nobuo Uematsu and I've wanted to do a cover of it for a long time. I made some small changes to the arrangement to make it sound more like a song. The bassline and some of the chords are slightly different. I did this to favor traditional guitar chords. Also, I left out the little intro part because I didn't want to go straight into the main melody. I wanted to build it up with those "ooo's" in the start. It would have sounded weird with the into and the ooo's, I think.
Now comes the part in every video description where I complain about my voice, haha. I've been fighting off a small cold and, unfortunately, it comes through on the record a little. My voice sounds more raspy than I would have liked in this one. I also had to do a ton of vocal takes then splice several of them together to make a decent one. There are a couple parts in the video that are a little out of sync with my singing as a result.
I won't go too far into what the lyrics mean until the last video, but as I said in the first; there is a "theme" that connects the three. I'm not telling a specific story about the game like I usually do so that's why there's no gameplay footage. The lyrics are inspired by the games, rather than being about them directly.
I'm going to release all three songs for download as a set when the last one is done.
