There's a number of wonderful covers of Westward Tide (The Ruby Sea night theme) out there, but not much in the way of the daytime version. Of course, the day theme features a clarinet for the melody, so I am terribly biased and it's been on my To-Do list for years since I first found my way there during Stormblood. Finally the stars aligned, and I knew just what Warrior of Light to tag in to handle the piano part! Major props to Ostil for once again turning the nonsense I write for piano into something spectacular ✨ It's just such a bop!
Despite our best efforts, we learned when trying to record that the piccolo needs a field trip to the shop so I busted out everyone's favorite "we have piccolo at home" - the sopranino recorder! The color worked pretty well all things considered (though please never ask me to perform that part live without the magic of punching in takes)
Also big shoutouts to the following video which was a huge help in trying to write out the sheets - boy howdy did these chords get funky! I'd be lying if I said I understand all the theory 100% but I couldn't have gotten this done without this reference 🤩 youtube.com/watch?v=j9beKzbjXQE
