In the original train graveyard sequence you could fight ghosts, sweepers, drakes an even had a rare encounter with eligor. Around this time you'd have the steal materia,
from drakes you could steal ethers (this is changed in remake, now cerulean drakes are the equivalent to common drakes in ffvii and their steal is the same, also remake now has a new set of common drakes that utilize wind over ice)
ghosts net you ghost hands, eligor nets you the best steal of all! the bladed staff, this was preserved in the remake!
