More powerful enemies await the group as they continue their journey.

The next optional boss we face isn't in the form of a crystal, but rather hidden inside of a treasure chest much like it was FFV. This would be Nova Dragon, and much like Omega, this boss is no pushover.

You'll want to make sure you're health is absolutely maxed out, and I would strongly recommend having the moon phase on Waxing, even though it will reduce your Black Mage's spell damage quite a bit it's a hit we will have to take.

Nova will start the battle off with Tidal Wave, which will deal massive damage to your party, and if you're under leveled will likely wipe your team before they even get a chance to attack. After Tidal Wave the dragon will almost always use Maelstrom on your team so focus on reviving those taken out with tidal wave before you start healing. Once Maelstrom is cast get your party healed and get haste on your White Mage and start dishing out some damage yourself. You will have about 5 or 6 turns before Nova will use Tidal Wave again, so make them count as much as you can.

You may wonder why I constantly cast shell in this battle, as far as I know casting shell multiple times will stack the effect, though I'm not exactly sure how many times it will stack.
I have two reasons for doing this: the first is to try to lighten the damage from Tidal Wave as much as possible, and the other is when the boss goes down he will cast Meteor to try to take you with him.

Other attacks Nova Dragon will use against you include:Venomous Gas, Cursed Elegy, Thunderbolt,Thermal Rays, Doom, Death, Embrace, and Diamond Dust. Thunderbolt will likely one-shot anyone that gets hit with it, and Diamond Dust is slightly less deadlier than Tidal Wave.

Your focus on this fight should be to deal as much damage as you can while keeping your health as high as possible. Don't be afraid to use Elixirs and Mega Elixirs in this fight cause it is definitely a rough one. If you see the boss cast Protect and Shell on itself then you have it down past half health, just keep the same strategy and make sure you have Shell up and the dragon should go down.

Your reward for this battle is the Ragnarok, a very nice weapon.

The next boss is actually mandatory to progress further into the dungeon. Atomos loves casting Meteor...so much so that it's the only attack it uses. Don't worry too much, however, because compared to Omega and Nova Dragon, this guy isn't too much to deal with. As you can see in the video, most of his Meteor spells whiff if you have high magic defense.
Still, don't throw caution to the wind, cast shell on your team to help out those that don't have too much magic defense, and heal up when you need to.

Once Atomos goes down we can finally proceed to the 15th floor, which has a few more optional bosses to take care of. We'll be dealing with them in the next segment.
