Ferrari has just unveiled the all-new Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale, bringing back a gear lever and clutch pedal for the first time in 14 years. But is this really a manual gearbox, or has Ferrari created something entirely different?
Ferrari has shocked the automotive world by revealing the Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale, a limited-edition V12 grand tourer featuring a traditional-looking gated gear lever and clutch pedal. But beneath the beautiful open gate lies Ferrari’s revolutionary Manuale By-Wire system, paired with the company’s existing 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). So has Ferrari really brought back the manual gearbox, or is this the world’s most sophisticated simulated manual?
In this video I explain exactly how Ferrari’s new Manuale By-Wire technology works, how the clutch-by-wire pedal operates, why the gear lever is no longer mechanically connected to the gearbox, what happens to the eight-speed DCT, and whether this really deserves to be called a manual Ferrari.
