Hi butterflies!!!
For my final VC animation project I had to make a short film with a message. At first I was going to do a film with the song Coyotes by Modest Mouse with a coyote walking through a forest as it's destroyed. However, my teacher showed our class some videos on making a film with a positive message and I liked that idea more. It got me thinking what I could do for a positive film and I thought about two of the most positive little dudes I know.
So I dusted off the old Feeling Good Animatic and revamped it for this. The original message behind Feeling Good was a celebration of Teach getting better after he had fin rot and he cheered me up taking us around the ocean. We fought and dodged a shark along the way that symbolized the negative feelings I had while Teach was sick. It also symbolized Teach's sickness as Butterfly constantly fought the shark off as it tried to eat Teach. However, Teach died before I could finish that animatic and the meaning no longer was there.
So for the new animation the message keeps the cheering up part. However, this time Teach and Vane spread their positivity and cheer us all up and the three of us will cheer you all on!!!
I kept some similar movements and scenes from the old animatic (like the intro and Teach's little dance).
I nearly always draw my little dudes smiling because that's how I remember them and how I want to continue remembering them. They'd always cheer me up with their funny dances and giant bubblenests, so I incorporated those into the animatic. Especially Teach, whenever I cried because I felt I wasn't doing enough to help him when he was sick he'd come and sit as close as he could to me in his tank. He understood what sadness meant and would try to cheer me up in his own way. The goal of this animation is to share that with everyone and show how awesome my little dudes are^^
P.s. I simplified their colors so I could actually finish this on time and they look a little nakey without em XD I'm really happy with this though. Especially with all I did in the amount of time I had.
Also also let's ignore that I forgot to add Butterfly's gills XD

Lastly, this is a little blurb I add in the description of all the videos with my little dudes. I decided to do this because often times people get betta fish as throw away pets or they live in horrible conditions. I don't want anyone here to get a betta fish because they look cute when I draw them. They should be treated as any other pet.
I call my little dudes water dogs, because that's what they are. You can teach them tricks like a dog. They will come up and greet you like a dog. They are great companions and they should be treated as such. Make sure you do your research and think hard about whether you truly want to make that commitment. A betta should be kept in a tank no smaller than 2.5 gallons, but it is better for them to have an even bigger tank. Plus the smaller the tank the more often you need to clean it. Also, not all betta fish are exactly the same, just like with any pet or person. You aren't guaranteed a Teach or Vane just because you get one. However, if you treat your little friend right I have no doubt you'll have a great friend too. Also don't put multiple male betta fish together, they are solitary fish. While, they will be your friend they will not be each others. I just wanted to add that here, so there is no misunderstanding. While, I do draw Teach and Vane together that is because I like to think my sons hang out together in the afterlife, ruling the seven seas. But I had them at separate times, they never met.

Time Taken: about a week, all lining, coloring, and editing was done in like 3 days ToT
