Root crop peelings such as those from potatoes, parsnips, carrots, swedes and turnips can pose a particular challenge in small worm bins. They're tough to break down and if just added to the bin as is, they will sit there for a very long time before they're at a stage where the worms can use them.
Cutting the pieces as small as possible helps as this increases the surface area of the scraps so more bacteria can get to work more quickly.
FTS - freezing, thawing then squeezing (to remove as much moisture as possible) - will see the scraps break down most rapidly of all.
In this video I've made two feeding stations - one with blended raw root crop scraps, and one with FTS blended root crop scraps to see which pile the worms will get through first.
