Federal ministers Eleanor Olszewski (emergency management) and Rebecca Alty (Crown-Indigenous relations) hold a news conference in Yellowknife to announce $3 million in funding over 3 years for the Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada (SARVAC). The funding will include creation of an insurance program for volunteers who are injured during their work.
Also speaking are Dyson Smith (commanding officer, Northwest Territories RCMP) and Bill Peck (Northwest Territories director, SARVAC).
The ministers and Mr. Peck take questions from reporters on their announcement, the status of the Mackenzie Valley Highway project, and preparation for future wildfires.
