HAPPY HALLOWEEEENNN!!!

Another year, another spooky season has come and gone, but you know we always like to exit it with a bang.

“But Meg!” I can hear some of you saying “Where’s the crossover video?”

Alas, I have opted not to do one this year. You see the truth is because of my irl schedule and all the MEP parts I end up doing, and how I was last minute on my videos 3 years in a row, I finally admitted defeat and decided not to force it this year. I wanted to do a much more casual and chill spooky season, where the past few years has have me overworking myself, being exhausted, and not wanting to edit months later. And I’m honestly tired of that system. So this year, I took a break! Now that doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll never edit a Halloween crossover again, but it is up in the air right now. And to be honest, the last two years are not bad videos to go out on if they are to be my last. Last year was a video I had planned on for a while, and the previous year was a YPIV that was a big combination of stuff.

In any case, that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to not do anything. After all, Halloween IS my favorite holiday. I can’t have nothing. But luckily for me, I already had a canon video planned for this month, and just decided to make that my Halloween video. Long time subscribers will probably recognize all the times I have brought up Haunted Mansion on this channel, and trust me folks, this video was bound to happen a year before the film even released. Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride in Disneyland, as it’s aesthetic and lore is so unique and fascinating. I have been very critical towards the 2003 Eddie Murphy movie for years now as, while an ok movie in it’s own right, had very little connections to the ride outside of the Madame Leota character. It did not take advantage of what the ride, its art design, its production history, and its lore had to offer. Which, as a fan, is just very disappointing. The 2023 version, on the other hand, was SO detailed and SO deep cut that there’s shit in there that only diehard fans like myself would catch. This was a WORTHY adaptation. I also just think the story is a lot better, even though it is very much mirroring what a lot of horror media is doing nowadays (oh you thought you were gonna get a fun ghost movie? PSYCH it’s actually all a metaphor for grief). But I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I’m glad we’re using horror to talk about psychological themes, I think it’s where the genre shines best. This movie was once described to me as a good gateway horror for kids, and not only do I agree with that I also think it’s great gateway horror for the horror that’s popular nowadays (Jordan Peele, Ari Aster, Mike Flanagan), that being using supernatural elements to talk about more grounded and serious themes. ANYWAYS I’m rambling. Movie good, movie satisfied long time fan of the theme park ride.

SO THE VIDEO! My second time using this song, but oooooo the lyrics worked way too well. I knew before the movie even came out this was a song I would consider using but it ended up fitting WAY better than I thought! I went for a much more simplistic and minimalist editing style for this one, as I felt getting too complicated would not fit the energy so much. And I am seriously loving using sound effects y’all! It’s becoming one of my most favorite part about canon editing nowadays, it’s just SO satisfying! I think had I had more time and didn’t start this at the last minute (whoops) I would’ve experimented incorporating the text into the environment a bit more. But I think it still looks pretty good! As a side note, god I am so HAPPY that I found the actual Haunted Mansion font! It made doing the text so much more fun! So yeah, I think that’s all! Enjoy, and have a spooky day!!
