This is my first time through FEAR 3, and even though I am just on the second area, I can already tell I don't like it nearly as much as the original. I played all the way through FEAR 2 years ago, and I can't remember one thing about FEAR 2 either. I do remember liking FEAR 2, but I can say as far as the combat goes, FEAR 3 already feels like tedious affair in the combat portions of the game.
The enemies are too psychic, are bullet sponges, and have pinpoint accuracy with grenades. I'm only playing this game on normal difficulty, but I already feel like this is a game where I wait to be shot at by the psychic enemies so I can return fire. The firefights just kind of turn into a slog where it makes you feel like you are barely progressing in the game.
The duck and cover mechanic is also pretty wonky. Instead of feeling natural, like how Killzone 2 does it, it sticks you to the surface, and breaking away from the box or wall you are covering on isn't a smooth transition away. You pretty much have to hit the cover button again to be unstuck from that wall.
I don't mean to sound too negative on the game, F.E.A.R. 3 is still pretty good, it just feels a little tedious at times to me. It's still worth playing, but it's not as good as the original.
