There were certainly cases of corruption within the FBI during the late 1960s, including instances of agents using illegal methods such as wiretapping and burglary to gather information on political activists and other targets. One well-known example is the COINTELPRO program, which was launched in the 1950s and continued through the 1970s. This program was designed to disrupt and neutralize various domestic political organizations, including civil rights groups and anti-war activists, through covert and often illegal means. The FBI also had a reputation for targeting individuals based on their political beliefs, rather than actual criminal activity.
