President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. conferred the Order of Sikatuna with the Rank of Datu (Grand Cross), Gold Distinction, upon His Excellency ENDO Kazuya, outgoing Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines, during the latter’s farewell call at the Study Room of Malacañan Palace on August 27, 2026.
The citation recognizes Ambassador ENDO’s significant contributions to strengthening cooperation between the Philippines and Japan, which led to the elevation of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
He was also recognized for advancing Philippines-Japan relations by promoting high-level exchanges and deepening bilateral cooperation across sectors, including defense and security, and for development cooperation supporting the Philippines’ priorities in infrastructure, education, transportation, maritime domain awareness, and human resource development.
Moreover, Ambassador ENDO was commended for advancing Japan’s long-standing commitment to peace and development in Mindanao, including support for the peace process, grassroots development, and the transition of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
He was likewise recognized for his efforts to mobilize humanitarian and development assistance from the Government of Japan in response to natural disasters and the recent global oil crisis, and for deepening people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Ambassador ENDO was accompanied by his wife, Madame Endo Akiko, during the farewell call. He has served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Philippines since March 2024.
