Miguel Zerecero, economics assistant professor, is a macroeconomist whose research spans spatial and labor economics. He’s particularly interested in how differences in birthplace affect differences in standards of living across people within the same country. His work finds that people born in economically distressed areas face more disadvantages than those born in areas with access to more opportunity. His research, published in several working papers, aims to quantify how much of the welfare inequality can be attributed to this issue.
Zerecero earned his bachelor’s at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and his master’s and doctorate at the Toulouse School of Economics in France. He’s excited to join UCI where his research interests align with others in his department, and due to the campus’s Southern California location, offers the second best option for Mexican food outside of his home country.
