Ridgeway, SC...a whistle stop on railroad from Augusta to Charlotte. Small town, big history. I have highlighted a tour of the smallest police station in the county and the Century House where Gen P.T.G. Beauregard made his headquarters after evacuating Columbia on February 17, 1865 and sent a telegram to General Robert E. Lee telling about the evacuation as General W.T. Sherman had taken over the city.
Moving on the Winnsboro, to find the grave-site of Colonel James H. Rion who commanded the 7th SC Battalion during the Civil War. He was an attorney and served in Charleston, SC on Morris Island at Battery Wagner. Survived the war and returned to Winnsboro and was connected with the Rion Rock Quarry.
While in Winnsboro traveling the road the the rock quarry, I discovered passenger rail cars on the track from the Ringling Brother and Barnum Baily Circus as well as large granite outcroppings along the way.
