Darlington County, SC is known for vast cotton fields. You would expect flat sandy land everywhere, but just off of Black Creek in Hartsville it a most unusual place. Part of the Thomas Hart Plantation off of Home Ave his his home ca. 1820. From the front it looks like a typical period home with a nice flat landscape. BUT WAIT ! Just behind this house is a steep drop of 65 feed down to a swamp. All along these grounds is a beautiful landscape covering many different elevations and the variety of species is unbelievable.
