In this edition of Face to Face Tim Vince talks to Madeline Manning Mims who at the age of three years old had spinal meningitis. The doctors came into her hospital bedroom and told her mother, “We've done everything we know to do. She's not going to live". Madeline describes how her mother being a woman of faith, responded with, "mm-hmm, let her walk out the door!" And she prayed and asked God to "give me my little girl back”. And if he did, she would raise her in the ways of the Lord the best way she knew how. Madeline went on to become one of the greatest Olympic athletes of all time. Five consecutive times in the US Olympics Team as an 800 metre runner and World record holder at 1 minute 57 seconds. Her athletics career stretched from the 1968 Mexico Olympics - where she won the Gold Medal - to the 1980 Moscow Olympics (where the US Team was eventually prohibited from competing due to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan). Madeline personally witnessed the terrorist attack on the Israeli Olympic Team in Munich 1972 and has served at numerous events since then as a Chaplain to the US Athletics team. She describes meeting Prince William & Princess Kate at the London 2012. One memorable line of many from this captivating interview is when Madeline says "we are a daughter or son of the Most High Living God. He is the Great I Am. He's Creator of all things. And once you come in realisation that that's who He is, then your competition changes. And you reach out to others who are competing, even though they're competing against you”.
