Fable (2027) just got a major new update out of Gamescom 2026, finally revealing how long Playground Games expects the upcoming Xbox RPG to take to complete, and the answer is already dividing fans. According to comments from the developers shared during a Gamescom Q&A, Fable is expected to feature roughly 15–20 hours of main story content, with another 15–20 hours of side quests and open-world exploration, putting a more complete playthrough somewhere around the 30–40 hour range. Playground Games also stressed that Fable’s life-sim systems are essentially limitless, meaning players who spend their time exploring Albion, interacting with its NPCs, building relationships, buying homes and businesses, and engaging with the world outside the main quest could potentially keep playing far beyond the story itself. That runtime has sparked a pretty mixed reaction online, with some players calling 20 hours too short for a modern open-world RPG after such a long development cycle, while others think a tighter experience could actually be a good thing. Interestingly, the numbers aren’t dramatically different from Fable 2 and Fable 3, which also featured relatively short main stories but could stretch much longer for players completing side content and fully exploring their worlds. With Fable shaping up to put a massive emphasis on replayability, NPC interactions, exploration, choices, and its life-simulation systems, the bigger question may not be how quickly you can reach the credits, but how much there actually is to keep you playing afterward. What do you think about Fable potentially taking around 20 hours to beat and roughly 40 hours with side content? Is that the perfect length for a Fable game, or were you expecting something much bigger after all these years?
