Be advised that there are two power steering boxes and one manual steering box for 1967 to 1972 F100s. And if you are thinking of converting over to power steering you will have issues. More on that later.
• In regards to the two power steering boxes, one is the Ford style (Saginaw) box and the other is the Bendix style. Ford started to change over to the Saginaw box in 1969. Best way to figure out what you have is the Bendix box has four bolts on the top cover plate and the Saginaw box has two.
• NPD stocks two Saginaw boxes new and one rebuilt as well as the manual box.
• Bendix power steering box will have to be rebuilt. We recommend Rodes Restorations or Red Head Steering Gears for that.
• Bendix boxes are a little more problematic as they don’t seem to hold up as well as the Saginaw and they produce more heat that the Saginaw box. Some folks recommend a transmission cooler in front of the radiator in leu of the small pump mounted cooler.
If you want power steering on your non power truck, I’d recommend going to a Saginaw box, an engine mount from a 1970 to 76 FE powered F100 and the steering column and column mounts from a 1970 to 1977 F100. Or you can shorten your column by 2 inches.
If you go with the later 1970 to 1977 columns in a 1967 to 1969 F100 you’ll need to do some wiring mojo to get it all to work.
