This tiny ghost town was once a ranching community with a population of ten in the 1870s. A post office was established in 1890 along with a one roomed schoolhouse.
Oil was discovered in 1940 and the Sun Oil Company built 59 oil producing wells in the area. The town boomed to 1,000, most of which were employed by Sun Oil, making it a Company Town. Three churches, a rec hall, two cafes, a petrol station and grocery store were built to supply the needs of the growing population. $1 million was spent on a state-of-the-arc school (21,488,571 in todays money); the investors were expecting a huge influx of attendance. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. By the mid 1960s, the Company closed most of its wells and relocated the employees.
The expensive school closed in the 1980s, left to rot in the Texas sun. Today it is a mere shell of its former self and has been used to house farm animals - now, it’s totally abandoned.
