In this video we explore the charming historic town of Fort Macleod in Southern Alberta.

It is located about 175 km southeast of Calgary and it has a current population of about 4100 people. Fort Macleod is a major cultural and historic hub: It is the site of the first major permanent NWMP base in Western Canada and the well-preserved downtown core is one of only two provincial historic sites in Alberta. The Fort Museum features a comprehensive collection of local history and highlights the different cultures that have lived in this area. This town is so picturesque that there have been several major movies and TV shows filmed here.

It was really interesting getting to know this area a bit better, but this is just my perspective as a tourist - I'd appreciate extra information and recommendations, please leave your comments below!

Exploring the Historic Town of Fort Macleod, Alberta

$The Strange Disappearance of Nuclear Physicist Lachlan Cranswick from Deep River, Ontario in 2010 #disappearances #ontario In this video I cover the disappearance of 41 year old Lachlan Cranswick from the town of Deep River, Ontario in 2010. Lachlan moved to Canada from Melbourne, Australia in 2003 and in 2010 he was working for Atomic Energy of Canada at their Chalk River facilities near the town of Deep River. He was a nuclear physicist who specialized in crystallography, and he worked with the application of neutron beams to further the study of material science, structural chemistry, magnetism and geology. He was well respected in his field, and he worked with scientists and students across Canada in applying these scientific tools in their research. On January 18, 2010 Lachlan was seen boarding a bus at the Chalk River labs that would take him back to his rented house in Deep River. This was the last confirmed sighting of the scientist. 5 days later, Lachlan had missed several days of work and he didnt show up for a curling championship at the Deep River Curling & Squash Club. His friends notified police and pretty soon a massive search started. Police first searched his house on Summit Street, and they found his front door unlocked, his vehicle in the driveway and his keys, wallet, camera and GPS unit inside. It was thought that Lachlan had spent the evening at home, took out his garbage cans at about 11:30 PM and then went out for a late night walk. Despite a comprehensive search that included police, civilians, a local ski club, helicopters and canines, Lachlan was never found. Police dogs could not pick up his scent trail and it was stated that there were no tracks found leading to the nearby Ottawa River. There was a lot of speculation around his disappearance, some thought he may have been killed for knowledge regarding safety infractions at the facilities he worked in. Others speculated he may have been kidnapped or killed by a foreign interest, perhaps he stumbled upon something he shouldnt have during his research. Ultimately there were no real leads in this case, and authorities were puzzled at his disappearance. On June 11 of that year, two canoeists in Welsh Bay found Lachlans body in two and a half feet of water. He was wearing his lab coat and identification. Police ruled out suicide and foul play, speculating he may have walked out onto the ice and accidentally fallen through. There were some reports that during the time of his disappearance the ice on the river was 4 feet thick - this was in the middle of a Canadian winter. The coroners office never publicly released their findings, and there was very limited information available after his body was found. This is one of the more notable disappearances in Ontario in recent history, and it remains a bit of a mystery.
