A walking tour exploring the magnificent history of the city of Colchester in Essex. Colchester's history stretches back to when it was the city of Cunobelin (Shakespeare's Cymbeline) between 5BC and AD40. It's regarded as the first recorded city in Britain and became the first city of Roman Britain and the original Roman capital. It's impressive Roman wall still survives. Colchester Castle was built around the year 1100 and is still an imposing historical monument. Colchester was the site of an important battle in the English Civil with the siege of Colchester in 1648. We also visit the serene ruins of St Botolph's Priory and our walk ends along the winding streets of Short Wyre Street, Eld Street, Scheregate and North Hill, crossing the River Colne to Colchester Station.
