This month presents Finnish Works for Violin and Orchestra, a captivating collection showcasing the emotional depth, colour and inventiveness of 20th‑century Finnish concertante music by Selim Palmgren, Aarre Merikanto, Einar Englund, Väinö Haapalainen, Väinö Raitio and Nils‑Eric Fougstedt, performed by violinist Linda Hedlund and the La Tempesta Orchestra under József Hárs. In addition, acclaimed guitarist Christophe Dejour presents Tales of Fate, an album uniting four works that only received their premieres many years after they were composed.


On our affiliated labels, SWR Music presents a 1997 live recording of Fauré’s Requiem and Poulenc’s Gloria. Conducted by Georges Prêtre, these performances reflect his Romantic style and highlight his close association with Poulenc. Though the works inhabit different spiritual worlds, Prêtre unites them with masterly continuity and contrast.
