The Museum of Natural History, University of Oxford was established in 1860 to draw together scientific studies from across the University of Oxford. Today, the award-winning Museum continues to be a place of scientific research, events, exhibitions and activities for the public and school students of all ages.
Between 2019 and 2026, the 'Life, as we know it' redisplay project installed 48 new displays in 24 brand new showcases in the Museum's stunning main court. Featuring reconstructions of past ecosystems, from the Carboniferous to the Pleistocene, the latest exhibits offer visitors a brand new presentation of the historically important Oxfordshire dinosaurs, including Megalosaurus, the first dinosaur ever to be scientifically described.
Alongside these new displays, visitors can also enjoy revamped touchable specimens and a digital interactive 'pod' – the Prehistoric Diver – that recreates Cambrian and Jurassic ocean environments.
This project has been generously supported by funding from FCC Communities Foundation, and Biffa Award.

The Museum is part of the University of Oxford's Gardens, Libraries and Museums and is overseen by the Board of Visitors and supported by Honorary Associates. The Pitt Rivers Museum of anthropology and archaeology adjoins the Museum building, so both places can be enjoyed in a single trip.
