the PSC comes with a old ver of Weston 1.11.0 which was initially released back in June 2016. you may have noticed that there hasn't been any new retroarch builds lately for the psc and that's mainly due to the the Weston 1.11.0 using something called wl_shell which has long been deprecated. you can read about it here:
github.com/libretro/RetroArch/issues/7064
github.com/libretro/RetroArch/issues/16361
Retroarch removed support for wl_shell back in 2018 and switched to xdg-shell. that's why there hasn't been any new Retroarch releases lately because getting wl_shell to work in the newer versions is a uphill battle.
well ive attempted to compile newer vers of Weston in the past but always failed in getting it to work. But now with the help of Ai i was able to compile it and get it working.
i've also compiled Retroarch 1.14.0 back in 2024 and at the time it didnt work as it required xdg-shell. but with this new Weston 6.0.0 it does work. It may be my imagination but it feels like it's performing faster though im not really sure.
Anyway just wanted to showcase it. im not sure if or when i'm going to release it though because getting it to work is a mess. you would have to install it internally and do some trickery. but if i can get it working without modding anything internally then maybe later
i really wanted to compile this to get Wine working with hardware acceleration but that didnt work. I might have to compile a newer weston... though im not sure how much higher i can go up to without doing some Frankenstein edits.
first i needa get some xdg-shell exclusive apps to work first i mean it'll be kinda pointless to have xdg-shell compatibility when nobody is releasing new shit. that'll be like making a new console and nobody releasing new games

i forgot to mention im using a dualshock ps1 controller via a ps2 to pc adapter. vibration works too. it does work with the regular psx controller but u might have to change the controls in the option menu. maybe map the camera controls with the front psx buttons and use the l1/l2 and r1/r2 triggers for shooting and other stuff. i never tried but i think its possible
for those who want it in a .mod installer format for project eris, here you go
