Ever build something with with 2x4s ?
I don’t use construction lumber often, but when I do, I cut quarter of an inch off each side of the stud to remove the round over. The square edges make it much easier to build something square and straight. You’d be surprised sometimes you can actually find some nice boards at the home store… Start by looking at the end grain. two by fours with tight growth rings will be more stable and often have a nice grain pattern.
Here in the northeast most two by fours will be Douglas Fir.
