Today, we follow Roman — a bushcraft mastermind — as he builds a **full 2-room underground log cabin** completely by hand. What starts as a simple dirt patch quickly transforms into one of the most unbelievable DIY earth shelters you’ll ever see.
Roman begins by carving out the perfect layout, digging with precision and prepping the ground so the cabin stays dry, sturdy, and winter-proof. Once the pit is ready, he installs foundations for the main log pillars — each log carefully selected, peeled, and charred for long-term durability and pest resistance. No termites allowed in this underground kingdom.
The floor gets a layer of gravel for drainage and stability, turning the base of the pit into a clean, solid platform. Roman then crafts a staircase worthy of a secret hideout, laying a sand base and positioning the steps with perfect spacing so rainwater can escape and visitors won’t slip into the abyss.
Next comes the heart of the home: the stone oven. Roman aligns the flue pipes, builds the chamber, and strengthens the chimney with a stone-cement mix. After curing, this oven becomes the cabin’s heater, stove, and soul — ready for warm meals deep underground.
Roman stacks the wall logs using tight interlocking joints and thick wooden spikes, creating a fortress-like structure. He wraps the walls with weed-barrier tarpaulin for insulation, turning the cabin into a naturally warm, weather-resistant bunker. The roof frame is built from thick beams supporting a classic gable roof, chosen for its strength and ability to shed rain and snow effortlessly.
With the shell complete, Roman installs the master columns to distribute roof weight, seals the oven with added insulation, and constructs a doorway and windows designed to keep warmth inside and moisture out. Flexible window seals and wool-filled log gaps make this place feel like a cozy underground lodge.
Roman finishes the roof window for natural light, adds protective materials around the walls, and then gets to crafting furniture. A multifunctional wooden bed, a rustic table, and polished wooden stairs bring comfort to this earth-sheltered retreat. Even the door gets the royal treatment — burned and sealed to withstand time, weather, and the great outdoors.
