The legendary game designer Eugene Jarvis in Finland 12.2.2015.
- And you started gaming with mainframe computers. What was it like?
Yeah. Actually, we had, actually computer cards, if you can believe it, which
were, these punched cards, kind of like an airline ticket. Aand you actually had decks of those things and you read them into the mainframe. And if you were lucky, you know, your program might run or your your game might run.

Eugene and the Housemarque guys got together and chatted a bit about the state of gaming, specifically about arcades and old school gaming in general.
Along with his friendly visit to Finland, Eugene announced that he is working on a brand new game with the Housemarque team.
This is Eugene’s first co-operation with an outside game developer since working with Midway Games (Cruis’n USA, 1994). A quote from the man himself:
“When I saw RESOGUN I couldn’t believe how these Housemarque guys took Defender to a new level. I wondered… what would happen if we teamed up? Mash up old school arcade with mad voxel tech and crazed nouveau Helsinki gamers… All I know now is that it is going to be explosive”.
Arcade games have been very close to Jarvis since he started creating them in 1982 with Robotron. Raw Thrills, his company, is on the forefront of contemporary arcade culture with sizeable gaming hits such as the Big Buck Hunter franchise.
This new venture is in essence Housemarque making a game with one of their all-time heroes.

Revenge from Mars is a pinball machine designed by George Gomez and manufactured by Midway (under the Bally label) released in 1999. It is the sequel to Attack from Mars, that also has the same theme.
This game was the last machine manufactured by Midway and the first to use the Williams Pinball 2000 system that overlays interactive video onto the mechanical playfield (see also Star Wars Episode I).
An additional first was the default non-existence of a replay/special. Instead of awarding the player a free game when reaching a certain amount of points, it was decided to rather award extra balls (default at 50 million and 200 million). Additionally the match sequence at the end of a pinball game (a random free play award) was discarded. This default behaviour can be changed by the operator though.
